Are you a student at a UK University, or an alumni of a contributing society, with a passion for European culture, history or affairs? Write for us! We welcome submissions on all topics in all styles, so long as they focus on Europe or its people.

Guidlines:

  • Writers must be an alumni or student of a university society that is part of EUPS (alternatively, a member of a collaborating youth organisation). See our social media for the most up-to-date list.
  • Writers do not need to have a specific degree: submission by any degree is welcome, including on topics outside their degree (for example, if an English student wanted to write an article on European engineering, go ahead!).

As a small team, we aim to respond to everything sent to us within two weeks. All pieces published on The European Publishing Scheme website remain exclusively the property of their author, so can be cross-posted elsewhere by the author or relevant third-party.

Submission Catergories

EUPS sorts subsmissions into four catergores:

  • Articles – 500 – 800 words.
    • Suitable for immediate news and recent updates on current topics.
  • Opinions – 1500 max words.
    • Longer pieces on immediate news and recent updates, casual commentary, conversation revival or academic interest.
  • Essays – 5000 max words.
    • In-depth explorations of specific themes or subjects.
  • Dissertations – 20,000 max words.
    • Intricate research that provides original thought and/or adds to academic conversation. The revival of a conversation is also naturally included. Students can submit their graded proposals here upon consent from their institution.

EUPS will sort your piece into one of these catergories before publication, as it will help us when advertising your piece.

What Should I Send?

Anything! We welcome all European-focused topics, and any writing styles. Whether you want to submit a long-form essay, a quick blog post, a news article, a movie review or anything else you can think of, we will welcome it.

There are two ways to submit to EUPS. One is to send us a complete piece, which if accepted (as it probably will be!) one of our Editors will work through with you as needed before a final version is reached and it can be published. For this reason while we allow cross-posting of pieces, we ask that you do not send us anything that has already been published. Additionally, all written submissions should be sent in a Word or Google doc to allow for comments and editing.

You can also send us a pitch for your piece, which will then be picked up by one of our Editors and colloborated on with you to create a full piece.

All articles must abide by our Content Guidelines and Policies.

What Content is EUPS Interested In?

  • Reviews of European places, literature, movies, food or anything else cultural
  • Political articles about current European affairs – please note that we are a non-partisan organisation so these will be considered carefully by our team before publication.
  • Eurovision!
  • Profiles with European academics, actors and other public figures
  • Essays on European history
  • Opinion pieces on your own experience in Europe or European identity

Anything that relates to Europe in some way will be considered by our team. All pieces must have a European focus or ‘twist’, so while for example an article on the impact of America’s trade policies on the EU would be accepted, one that considers American trade policy in isolation would not.

How to Submit to EUPS

Please email EUPS-Submission@outlook.com with your pitch or piece. One of our team will get back to you within two weeks to inform you whether you’re article has been accepted or rejected.
